Patricia Gibson MP is urging people with hearing loss in North Ayrshire to use a charity’s community-based hearing support service.
During the MP’s visit to a drop-in session in Ardrossan Library, Action on Hearing Loss Scotland’s volunteers, Shona Welsh, Duncan Wiseman and Leanne Murray, who have been trained by NHS Ayrshire & Arran audiology, cleaned and re-tubed NHS hearing aids to ensure local people did not need to travel to hospital.
Action on Hearing Loss Scotland’s Fiona Goodwin, said: “We were delighted to update Patricia Gibson MP about the range of positive impacts our service offers in Ardrossan – including cleaning or re-tubing NHS hearing aids.
“Our dedicated team of wonderful volunteers also provide information about equipment such as TV listeners or amplified telephones which can make everyday life easier – it’s a service which many local people with hearing loss depend on.”
Patricia Gibson MP said: “I encourage everyone in North Ayrshire who needs support to get the best use of their NHS hearing aids to pop in to Action on Hearing Loss Scotland’s community hearing support service, which is clearly a lifeline for especially older people who have hearing loss and may struggle to travel to hospital. It was great to see Shona, Duncan and Leanne delivering a very welcoming, patient and reassuring service during the monthly drop-in sessions in Ardrossan Library for people who need some help to get used to their hearing aids and persevere wearing them so they can continue hearing friends and family.”
